Savannah, GA Vacation
109 West Jones - This is the house/apartment that Mom and Dad (Lessel) rented for our stay. Nice place with three bedrooms and some great common areas for hanging out.
This is what we saw when we left our front door. A nice brick-paved street that had some great trees overhanging it. We all agreed it was the most attractive street in all of Savannah.
The parentals over Savannah.
This Spanish moss was hanging off of almost every tree there, giving it a ominous and pretty look at the same time.
Geoffrey trying the She Crab Soup. Kelly had the He Crab Soup. =)
We drove up and down this little street a lot. The stones don't make for a pleasant ride, either.
A sampling of some of the architecture of Savannah. Places like this weren't in select little areas, but all around.
The scored flounder at Bistro Savannah was, hands down, the best fish I have had in my life. We went to the Bistro twice just so we could get this dish again.
A lot of the residents really knew how to make a cool backyard area.
G and K sitting in one of the many squares that dot the city.
We found these chairs in an import store and they were quite comfortable. We wanted to take them home.
Even though tropical storm Bonnie loomed on us, we ventured out to the beach on Hilton Head Island. It was gray, but we were the only ones there.
The better half.
Mom spent a lot of the afternoon studying the seagulls glide on the wind and decided that she could do it too. I didn't really see her get more than a few inches off the ground, though.
Somehow, this showed up in the sand on the beach. For those who don't know, our daughter's name is going to be Olivia Jade Lessel.
The fountain in the middle of this park (Forsyth) has an identical twin in Peru.
Despite us informing him otherwise, Justin insisted that he could push down this tree with one hand.
Another shot showing the architecture of the city.
Savannah is supposed to be one of the best walking cities and we took advantage of that (or put it to the test depending on who you ask).
This is an example of the meals we ate! Mrs. Wilkes' Boarding House was right next door and they are famous for their fried chicken and the sheer amount of food they throw at you. We walked in, were shown a table, and they brought out this huge banquet.
We played Tripoli and Justin and Geoffrey were out relativiely quickly, but Stephanie held on for awhile more. In the end, Mom won followed closely by Kelly (who won about 3/4 of that pile on the last hand) and then came Dad with his 30-something.
The whole fam.
Playing Tripoli as tropical storm Bonnie pounded down raid outside.
We had to have one of just us, too!
I think the best part of this picture is Justin in the back right.
The ladies on the ocean on Tybee Island.
The fellas after trying to do some body surfing for about an hour.
There are three Lessels on that wave!
Mom tries to run from the water while Dad plays it cool.
In true Lessel vacation tradition, we played some miniature golf. Yes, the men beat the women.
Our generous hosts for the week standing in front of the house.
We had to show how Kelly was coming along!
Yes, more brother vs. brother football.
